Social Realtionships

I am not sure if this website fits the "social realtionship" area;however, I think this site states some very important information for everyone to review.

  1. I definitely think this article pertains to "social relationships." I think that until a person actually knows, loves and respects a person with a disability, it's impossible to know how important it is for them to build and maintain positive relationships with community members and family.
I have a brother with Down Syndrome, and his favorite word is "friend." Not only is it a word he uses often, but it means something to him. I know this because he calls my father his "friend." I know that he can only mean it with the utmost sincerity when he does use it because I know how much he loves and respects his father. I also know that he equates the word "friend" as someone special to him.
I feel it is important for persons with disabilities to build relationships with people who truly care about their well being, and know how to respond to them. But, it's just as difficult to know who to trust to be these caring people in your loved one's life.
